The Jama Masjid or the old name “Masjid-i JahÄ�n-NumÄ�” is huge Mosque or can be said to be the biggest mosques in India. The wonderful places of India include the name of the Jama Masjid as a treasure of the walled city or the Old Delhi City.
The Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan got it made with a cost of Approximately Rupees 10 lakh or one million from 1644 to 1656. It was inducted and inaugurated by an IMAM who hailed from Bukhara, Nowadays known as Uzbekistan. The mosque has three big and great gates and the construction got completed in 1656 AD i.e. it took more than 6 years to be built. It has four towers and two Minarets of height about 40 m, constructed with Red Sandstone and white Marble. The courtyard is too big to accommodate 25,000 persons or more. The Jama Masjid has three domes and they are enclosed by two Minarets on its terrace. The black borders are prominent on the floor for as many as 899 participants and worshippers. The great emperor Shah Jahan got Jama Masjid built on Architectural plan and theme of Badshahi Masjid, constructed by his Son Aurangzeb at Lahore, in Pakistan.
A persistent ascent up to the peak or the top of its tower, situated on the southern side, provides a marvelous view, throughout the ridges of Delhi. No one is allowed without the appropriate dress while visiting the sanctum sanitarium. The dress should be covered from head to toes. You can find the proper dress there as well.
The Jama Masjid is located Opposite to Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi. The entry cost is free but in case you are carrying a camera fee 300 rupees. Even climbing the Minaret Tower is also chargeable.
The Jama Masjid remains open other than the time of prayers and closes during sunset.
