Shimla Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Delhi to Shimla

The journey from Delhi to Shimla is quite a long one. The travel arrangements will be made from your designated place in Delhi and the drive will commence towards the hill station of Shimla. The estimated distance from Delhi to Shimla is 350 km, which will take around 7 to 8 hours by road.

While travelling through Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, expect to see vast expanses of flat land, followed by lush green hilly regions. Enjoy meals at famous tea and snack points along this journey, allowing everyone to relax a bit. The drive also reduces fatigue; especially as the weather is more pleasant closer to Shimla.

You will reach Shimla by afternoon, after which you will check in to the hotel. After resting for some time, enjoy an evening walk at the famous Mall of Shimla. The Mall Road is the most popular street in Shimla which is filled with shops, cafes and restaurants. Another place you can visit is Christ Church which is one of the historical attractions and the oldest church in North India.

Go back to your hotel for overnight rest.

Day 2: Shimla and Kufri Sightseeing

Once you have a hearty breakfast, you will continue your exploration of Shimla and Kufri. Kufri is just 16 km from Shimla and is famous for its panoramic views, outdoor leisure activities and general tranquillity.

Kufri Fun World will be the start of your journey, which an amusement park is built at an elevated location that caters to those who want to enjoy various rides while watching the beautiful mountain ranges around them. The place is also known for its beautiful trekking routes, horse riding activities and skiing - which are available only during the winter months. If the right time is chosen, some activities that you can call snow sports are also offered.

Next, visit the Himalayan Nature Park where you will get a chance to see native animals and take a moderate walk surrounded by greenery. The park has a variety of flora and fauna, one of which is the Himalayan Monal, which is the national bird of Himachal Pradesh.

Finally, after completing the complete tour of Kufri, it is advisable to come back to Shimla for additional sightseeing. Visit the Ridge, which is a wide area with spectacular views of the mountains all around. You can also visit the Jakhu Temple, which is dedicated to Hanuman and this temple is located on Jakhu Hill which is the highest point in Shimla.

In the evening, you can come back to Mall Road and do some retail shopping. Customers usually buy woollen clothes, folk artisan products and other gifts from Himachal Pradesh. At the end of the day, after sightseeing and shopping, come back to your hotel and enjoy a good rest.

Day 3: Shimla to Delhi

On the last day of your trip to Shimla, have your last breakfast in comfort or relaxation at the hotel. The rest of the morning is free for you to explore Shimla, or more appropriately, the places you couldn’t visit yesterday. For instance, if one wishes, one can visit the Viceregal Lodge which was earlier intended to be the summer residence of the British Viceroy or one may also want to visit the Shimla State Museum which is dedicated to the history and culture of the region.

Then by lunchtime, you will vacate the room allotted to you and prepare for the journey back to Delhi. Enjoy the beautiful drive for the second time and stop only for lunch or tea where appropriate. By evening you will reach Delhi and with this, your 2 Nights 3 Days Shimla Trip will come to an end.

Travel Tips

  • Apparel - Since the weather in Shimla is pleasant, it is advisable to pack warm clothes. Summers will require light woollen clothes, while winters will call for heavy coats and woollen clothes.
  • Footwear - While roaming the streets without comfortable shoes seems impossible, these shoes will be ideal for walking on sloping surfaces and to Kufri and Jakhu Temple.
  • Health Precautions - Since Shimla is generally at a high altitude, it is important to rest for a few hours upon arrival and departure so that you can acclimatise yourself. If you are prone to altitude sickness, do not forget to carry proper medicines with you.
  • Shopping - If you want to buy the finest handicrafts and well-decorated souvenirs in the local markets, try to speak a little louder and protect your interests.
  • Local Food - Sit down in a cosy restaurant with a warm meal, but do not forget to taste the foods in Himachal like Chana Madara, Dham and Siddu.
