Most Spectacular Lakes in India

That's the thing with lakes in India; they gleam in the sunlight and are frequently surrounded by lush greenery and joyful birds. The lake's tweets and breeze make it a relaxing place to unwind. You don't always need the city's continual bustle and loud honking.

Here are 10 unique and scenic lakes in India that are totally worth experiencing:

1. Ladakh's Pangong

The Pangong Tso, a brackish water lake five hours' mountainous journey from Leh, is one of India's most scenic places. I'm sure you recall Kareena Kapoor riding a scooter in a red lehenga along the Pangong Tso's banks! Did you know the Line of Actual Control runs straight through it, with a significant section of it on Chinese territory? It's time to live a life as thrilling as this one!

2. Mandi's Prashar Lake

The Prashar Lake is a glacier lake located 49 km from Mandi, near to a Himachal-style shrine dedicated to Sage Prashar. Even if you're going with children, it's a simple journey. The lake, with its dark, blue water, stands out from the surroundings in both summer and winter. Summers transform the Prashar environment into a kaleidoscope of blue and green, while winters transform it into panoramas of alpine white and blue.

3. Lake Pichola, Udaipur Lake Pichola, Incredible Lakes in India

Lake Pichola, an artificial lake created over the City Palace in Udaipur, reaches as far as the eye can see. This lovely lake is roughly 4 kilometres long and 3 kilometres wide. The City Palace overlooks the lake, and long boat trips can be had from Rameshwar Ghat. You can even enjoy a sunset boat trip for a very romantic experience!

4. Manipur's Loktak Lake

Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in North East India, is notable for the floating phumdis that float over it. Phumdis are piled masses of soil, plants, and other organic matter in various states of decomposition. The masses form small islands on the lake where people live. The sight of the small phumdis adds to the beauty of Loktak Lake.

5. Spiti's Chandrataal Lake

The Chandratal Lake, a natural duplicate of the Pangong Tso in Spiti, receives its name from its crescent-like form and is located at an elevation of 4300 metres. Chandaratal, which literally means "Moon Lake," is located in the Lahaul and Spiti area, 7 miles from Kunzum La Pass. The lake is surrounded by huge grassy fields and has a sapphire-blue hue. What is the benefit, you ask? Spiti is an excellent location for viewing the Milky Way and enjoying a relaxing holiday away from technology.

6. Tsomgo Lake in Gangtok

It is located 35 km from Gangtok on the way to Nathu La Pass. The sheer altitude of Tsomgo, or Changu Lake in the local language, allows visitors to observe the towering peaks that surround the alpine, glacial lake. The lake's water is fed by melting ice nearby. The lake is surrounded by bright prayer flags and bells, making it one of the most beautiful spots in the eastern Himalayas to visit.

7. Kumarakom's Vembanad Lake

Kumarakom is home to the Vembanad Lake, which claims to be one of the longest lakes in India and one of Kerala's largest! Furthermore, because the lake is less well-known, it is less crowded, ensuring a calm experience. What's more intriguing is that the lake is a mix of fresh and brackish water separated by a saltwater barrier. Stay on a houseboat to fully appreciate the beauty and peace of Vembanad.

8. Dal Lake in Srinagar

If you want to completely enjoy Kashmir's natural splendour, you should visit Dal Lake.Despite being visited by tourists since the days of Kashmir Ki Kali, Dal Lake is stunningly gorgeous in both summer and winter, with two completely different landscapes to showcase. The 15-kilometer-round lake is filled with Raj-era houseboats, as well as shikaras that ply the lake, ferrying people from the boulevard to their houseboats or on boat rides. Shikaras also serve as vendors for Kashmiri handicrafts and souvenirs, as well as fruits, flowers, and vegetables.

9. Wayanad's Chembra Lake

Chembra Lake, a heart-shaped lake on the road to Chembra Peak in Wayanad, has been described as a lovers' paradise. The Chembra peak is a popular trekking track in the Wayanad jungle near Bandipur. Apart from its lovely shape and location on one side of a hill, Chembra Lake is said to have never dried up. Isn't it cool?

10. Roopkund Lake in Uttarakhand's Chamoli District

We Indians have a thing with scary stories. That's why I bit the bait as soon as I learned about a lake known as "Mystery Lake" that contains human bones and remains dating back to 850 A.D! Roopkund Lake is a high altitude glacial lake accessible by a 5- to 6-day trekking track, and when the snow melts, one can see human skeleton remains at its bottom. While scientific and spiritual explanations for the bones have been proposed, the mystery continues.
